We are very fortunate to have a cutting garden in the walled kitchen garden at Renishaw Hall. It is a private, peaceful part of the Estate with four Victorian glasshouses, a small orchard and stone out-buildings. It has become one of our favourite places and we are delighted to be able to share this beautiful place as we can now offer cutting garden floristry workshops.
In our first year we harvested armfuls of blue tradescantia, pink phlox, sedums, purple salvias, cornflowers, scabiosa, sweetpeas, mallow, calendua, eryngium, delphinium, agapanthus and fragrant herbs and foliage. We filled wheelbarrows with flowers and spent summer afternoons in the courtyard making hand-ties for our shop customers and arrangements for the Hall. After years of buying plastic wrapped flowers from the market it was wonderful to select, cut and conditon home grown, British flowers and to wrap them simply with brown paper and string to go to local homes. We like our flowers to be natural, seasonal and to be as sustainable as possible and growing flowers in a cutting garden attracts bees, butterflies, birds and all sorts of insects. The flowers are as fresh as they can be and this feels like floristry should be in an ideal world.
This year we will be teaching flower workshops of the wild/natural/seasonal kind. For bookings and available dates please find "Cutting Garden Workshops" on the Products Page. We can also offer tailored floristry lessons, flower parties, wedding flower workshops and floral headdress sessions. If you are thinking about fresh, British grown flowers for an event or celebration please get in touch as we are always happy to discuss ideas and projects.
