Kindred & Kind

We grow & gather flowers, herbs and foliage in the walled garden at Renishaw Hall for our nature inspired workshops and make wild & wonderful bunches for visitors who come to Renishaw to visit the home of the Sitwell family and to enjoy the beauty of the award- winning gardens.

We have been tenants at Renishaw Hall since 2014 and we recently become care takers of an enchanting, vine-laden,  Victorian Glasshouse. When the herbaceous borders of the Main Lawn in the formal gardens were redesigned by Arne Maynard in 2017, David Kestevan the Head Gardener offered us an opportunity to fill our allotment plots with the perennials that were being replaced. Flowers were planted in rows next to the rhubarb, gooseberry bushes and raspberry canes, to create a cut flower patch in the kitchen garden. The allotment plots were soon filled and the cut flower patch grew into a cutting garden framed by espaliered pear trees and stone walls.

It was always a dream to grow our own flowers and to share our passion for seasonal, sustainable floristry, environmentally gentle gardening, and nature inspired workshops. After years of working as florists, volunteering on organic farms, and managing environmental charities it felt like a perfect fit in our favourite garden.

Our workshops are friendly, informal and welcoming. We are guided by the weather and the growing cycles of the flowers, herbs and foliage in the garden. We gather the freshest most beautiful blooms with fragrant herbs, armfuls of foliage, architectural seed heads and the odd endearing weed. We share the garden with vocal birds, busy insects, opportunist squirrels and sleepy cats. We have a resident robin who regularly visits the glasshouse to say hello and woodpeckers are usually heard but seldom seen.

We have been incredibly lucky to have this refuge during lockdown and we know how much the peace and immersion in nature has helped us through this tough time. We look forward to welcoming visitors again and sharing this very special place.
